Phoenix
(Devon 2015)
This song is a prayer to really step into courage. It came at a time when life had just got too much, I was at breaking point and I needed to die and be reborn. Two weeks after writing this song I went to my first utterly life-changing healing retreat and all of these prayers came to pass. “Blow me into dust and plant me in the river, show me how to trust, for I am gift and giver”. The retreat healed my anxious body, mind and spirit and re-opened my heart. I cannot express in words how much the spirit of these ancient ways have helped renew my life. You can hear this open tenderness in the Spanish part of the song, which was written just days after coming back from the retreat.
Come wind and come rain
Come time a turning Come circle me again Come fires burning From four corners of the earth And meet me in the middle Come death and come birth For I am light and shadow Come light from furthest star Mystery unfolding Come show us who we are Rising sun beholding The wisdom of the seeds Where all is born within me The whispers of the trees sing I am all and nothing Chorus: Courage lead me to the flames Paint ashes on my skin and Phoenix guide me through the fire That I might rise again and Calling out to the wind To teach me to dissolve Into this beating heart again Come crashing ocean waves Salty treasure keeper Come singing spirits caves Teach me to go deeper Wind blow me into dusk And plant me in the river Show me how to trust For I am gift and giver Courage lead me to the flames Paint ashes on my skin and Phoenix guide me through the fire That I might rise again and Calling out to the wind To teach me to dissolve Into this living earth again This breathing earth again This breathing heart again El viento lleva me El fuego limpia me Gran espiritu Enseñar me enseñar me Chorus Musicians Susie Ro – Vocals Michael Stanton – Guitar & piano Murray Kyle – Guest vocals Allan Kerr – Percussion Misha Mullov-Abboda – Double bass James Watts – Mbira Roy Harmon – Trumpet |
